Following Jesus in Company with Each Other For The Good Of The World
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am the 4th Vicar of St Andrew’s and I am conscious very much of standing on the shoulders of giants. The Lord has been kind for a long time to this body of people, and many have seen the blessings poured out over 4 generations.
So, as we embark upon a new phase here, my prayer is that the Lord will continue to meet with us and impact us for service in the parish, the country and even wider afield. Therefore any change that comes about should be seen as evolutionary and not revolutionary. I am wanting to build on what has gone before, not dismantle it.
Inevitably I bring differing emphasis, but what I have in common with all who have gone before me is a passionate desire to see the Church strengthened in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, and to see us all filled with the love of Christ for the lost, the least, the last, the left-out, the little and the dead. I want us all to become more intentionally missional, each learning to speak well of Jesus Christ. I want all of us to be a Bible people, shaped and changed by its transforming revelation.
To that end, we shall be a ‘4G’ church: Grounded in the Word; Growing in the Spirit; Giving of our time, talents and treasure; and Going into all the world, on fire with the love of Christ.
May St Andrew’s be that type of church! With love and prayers, David White November 28th 2010
