September 2010 Newsletter

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

In the best selling (and those words are rarely combined with the next church report (!!) The Mission-Shaped Church there is a striking sentence applicable to us all:

"It is not the Church of God that has a mission in the world, but the God of mission who has a church in the world."

What does that mean?

I want to suggest the following:

  • God is already at work within the world he created, and he has not left himself without a witness
  • He seeks a church that learns to 'step in behind' what he is already doing
  • Mission is central to who God is - after all he loved the world so much that  he sent his only Son as a gift

Where do we see God at work - in the parish?  Among our MSCs?  Further afield?  Are you recognising what he is doing?  Can you discern already those that the Lord is calling to himself?

As stewards of the gospel, God requires our obedient faithfulness.  As a new season of Alpha starts why not pray for the following:

  • That God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) would use you in evangelism
  • Then pray for a compassion for the lost - the same compassion that moved Jesus' heart within him so much that he felt all churned up inside
  • Pray for people of peace you know
  • Invite them and go with them to the course

And remember:

A - anyone you know who might appreciate the opportunity to find out what life is all about
L - love - let's show it to those we invite and all we meet
P - prayer - nothing good will come out of the course without it
H - can you help?
A - after the course, are you prepared to encourage the new Christians we have

With my love and prayers,

David White
